And it all starts by taking care of the environment. As early as in the 18th century the beekeepers in what was the land of Carniola at the time were already regarded as highly skilled and knowledgeable in terms of their insight into the world and ways of honeybees. Currently there are over 8, beekeepers in Slovenia who in about , beehives produce something like 2, tons of honey per year.
Slovenia with its geographic location and countryside, rich flora and comparatively clean environment, is a genuine treasure chest of different honeys. The Carniolan Bee is the second most prevalent honeybee species in the world; in response to growing demand in the 19th century it spread from Slovenia first to Europe and then all over the globe, in particular to America. Slovenia has registered the Carniolan Bee as indigenous Slovenian bee species. In its homeland its genetic material is maintained in its purest form and beekeepers are doing their best to keep it that way. The Grey Bee is very popular, not least for being non-aggressive and extremely gentle in its behaviour toward beekeepers. It is also quite resistant to disease and has a very good sense of orientation.
It leaves the beehives earlier than other honeybee species and brings home more nectar from distant pastures. Vse do Beehive panels are the front panels of the Carniolan beehive, a distinctive type of beehive unique to Slovenia.

Our achievements in mountain climbing go a long way back: Slovenians have traditionally been known to be the first to climb many a route. There was Julius Kugy, lawyer, entrepreneur and writer who lived at the turn of the 20th century and with the help of local mountain guides not only reached the summit of many previously unconquered peaks in the Julian Alps but also made many ascents via new routes.
He is generally regarded as the man who discovered the Julian Alps. Kugy successfully applied his in-depth knowledge of the mountains in World War I when he served as a volunteer in the Austrian-Hungarian army; due to his mountaineering skills he was later promoted to lieutenant. Quite a few months had gone by before Humar was told by the doctors that he should be able to walk again. Once more willpower and determination prevailed. Humar completed about ascents including 60 first ever ascents in Slovenia and abroad. In his resume we can also find solo ascents of Anapurna 1, El Capitan and Daulaghiri.
